Shakespeare in the Park
Central Park alone offers plenty of fun things to do, such as catching a free Shakespeare in the Park performance! This ongoing series by the Public Theater happens in the park’s open-air venue, allowing you to watch new and exciting renditions of Shakespeare’s classic works.
Other activities in Central Park include marveling at the Bethesda Fountain, which has provided a backdrop for countless movies and television shows, and wandering through the Central Park Zoo.
The Met Cloisters
An annex of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cloisters allow you to travel back in time. This unique section of Fort Tryon Park in Upper Manhattan consists of reconstructed halls and chapels reminiscent of medieval French monasteries. Photo opportunities abound as you meander through four acres of stunning grounds. Tours are available as well.
New York Botanical Garden
Like Central Park, the New York Botanical Garden is a National Historic Landmark. It is in the Bronx neighborhood and features 250 acres of lush gardens. Many events happen at these gardens, including the annual Holiday Train Show, featuring over 190 replicas of New York City attractions.
The Brooklyn Bridge
Another National Historic Landmark, the Brooklyn Bridge, sits over the East River and is one of the country’s oldest suspension bridges. It connects Brooklyn to Manhattan, features bicycle and pedestrian walkways, and offers outstanding views of the beloved New York City boroughs. If you want to take a walk but don’t want to fight through crowds, visit this bridge before 9:00 am.
